Environment and Climate Change Canada Projects (CAAF)

The Climte Action and Awareness Fund (CAAF) is awarded by the Government of Canada to support projects that are working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Canada. Current DalTRAC Projects being supported by the CAAF include:

NSERC Alliance Grant
Provided by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, the Alliance Grant is given out to researchers who are pursuing new knowledge to benefit Canada. In 2022, DalTRAC recieved funding from the NSERC Alliance Grant for research around modelling and monitoring transportation emissions. Dalhousie Commuter Surveys
Conducted annually in partnership with the College of Sustainability, the Dalhousie Commuter Survey shows how students, faculty, and staff at Nova Scotia's largest university get around.
Low Carbon Communities Grant (LCC)
The Low Carbon Communities grant is awarded by the Nova Scotia Department of Energy to support projects that are working towards providing cost-effective clean energy solutions for some of Nova Scotia's biggest carbon emitters, including the construction, electricity, and transportation sectors. Current DalTRAC projects being supported by the LCC grant include the Rural Transportation Electrification Project.
Share the Road
Started back in 2012, the Share the Road Campaign has been hard at work to spread knowledge around road safety to Nova Scotians. From digital resources to learn safe cycling habits, to pop-up tables at events around the Halifax Region, the Share the Road campaign is spreading the message of safe and responsible road use.Ìý

Travel Activity Surveys
DalTRAC has conducted the NovaTRAC and CanTRAC surveys to understand the mobility and lifestyle patterns of residents in multiple Canadian cities. As well, DalTRAC conducted the ComTRAC survey to understand the movement of goods through an urban setting. Halifax Travel Activity (HaliTRAC Survey)
2021-2023
DalTRAC in partnership with the Halifax Regional Municipality, conducted the HaliTRAC survey to better understand the travel and lifestyle choices of Haligonians.
Streetsense Network Project
2016
Operated by DalTRAC in partnership with the Halifax Cycling Coalition and Halifax Regional Municipality, the StreetSenseNetwork project helped to set up multiple bike counters on key cycling routes throughout the Halifax Peninsula, helping to understand how cyclists move through the city, and assist future cycling planning efforts.
Connect Smart Project
2017-2019
The Connect Smart Project, operated by DalTRAC and funded by the Province of Nova Scotia, was a campaign to create conversation around future of travel in Nova Scotia. Through the project, people discussed mobility options such as driverless cars and electric vehicles, among others, and how these means of getting around tie in with local land use.
