1. Across the four experiences, students must collaborate with other students (undergraduate and/or graduate) or professionals from at least four different health professions that have natural affinities or linkages in a practice setting. That is, you cannot meet the requirements simply by participating in classes and events with SLP and audiology, nor by attending events that you are curious about but do not have any natural role for your profession.

2. At least one of these IPHE experiences will take place in a practice setting. Practicum placements often provide students with the opportunity to work on interprofessional teams. These teams may include a variety of professionals, e.g.: teachers, resource staff, psychologists, early education specialists, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, recreation therapists, dental hygienists, dentists, pediatricians, neurologists, otolaryngologists, and radiologists.

1. Please tell your clinical educator that you would like to participate in an IPHE experience during your practicum/fieldwork experience. Explain that this must include interaction and learning 鈥渇rom, with, and about,鈥� not just observation.
2. You may seek out students from other professions and other institutions and explore opportunities to collaborate.

3. To count as an IPHE experience, the experience must involve interaction and learning 鈥渨ith, from, and about鈥� other professionals and their practice and how your profession collaborates with others. Thus, this cannot simply be: an observation of another professional (e.g., observing a surgery), working alongside other professionals but without collaborating, or taking a course with other professionals if it does not involve meaningful engagement among professionals.

4. Please note that some experiences are completed in 1 event, some have preparatory work that must be done before an event, and some include 2 or 3 events. Regardless of whether the experience takes place over 1, 2, or 3 events and whether or not there is preparatory work, the experience will count as 1 IPHE. For example, you cannot participate in 1 experience that meets one time and a second experience that meets 3 times to meet the requirement of 4 experiences; this example would add up to 2 experiences.

Students must complete the IPHE tracking form (see tab below) on an annual basis. The tracking form maps interprofessional collaborative learning experiences onto school requirements and will be graded by the School on a Pass/Fail basis. Completed tracking forms are submitted to the SCSD Administrative Secretary at the end of each academic year.
