The Dalhousie Undergraduate History Society also leads events for the student community including, but not limited to, trivia nights, historical trips in and around Halifax, and our annual road trip. The Dalhousie Undergraduate History Society also produces Pangaea, our annual undergraduate journal that publishes student-authored work.

Hi there, I’m Harry, your president for the UGHS! I’m pursuing a major in history with a dual minor in classics and anthropology. My areas of interest are ancient (particularly Bronze Age) Greece, and more thematically play and fantasy. This is my third year on the exec and my first as president and I look forward to meeting new faces and sharing all the amazing programming we have to offer this year!

Vice President: Callie Jurmain

Hey!! My name is Callie and I’m so excited to be the UGHS vice president this year! I’m currently in my fourth year of a combined honours in Contemporary Studies and History. In history, I’m typically drawn to the contemporary period. I especially enjoy examining the history of punishment and moral panics which have caused correlated spikes in carceral ā€œtough on crimeā€ approaches.

Treasurer: Emmett Stevenson

I’m especially interested in classical period architecture, trade, infrastructure, and culture, as well as theology. In my free time I love to run and hike, camp, generally learn about any topic I find fascinating, run arctic events, and I also love coffee! Feel free to reach out to me at (em412822@dal.ca) if you have any questions, and I look forward to seeing you at our events this year!

Secretary: Isabella Gualtieri

Hi, I’m Bella (she/her)! I’m double majoring in History and Political Science, and I’m thrilled to be your secretary! I’m particularly interested in Russian history at the turn of the 20th century, though I’ll fall down a Google rabbit hole for pretty much anything history-related. Outside of academics, I’m an avid reader, music lover, triathlete, and you can usually find me wandering downtown Halifax in search of new coffee shops. Should you have any questions (or just wanna say hi), feel free to reach out to me at igualtieri@dal.ca or instagram @izxgualtieri.

Social Media and Outreach Coordinator: Rebecca Merner

Hi! My name is Rebecca and I’m the social media and outreach coordinator for the UGHS. I am in my fourth year at Dal pursuing an Honours degree in History with a minor in Classics. I’m writing my honours thesis on art history, more specifically on indigenous artists contributing to the Cusco School of Art in early modern colonial Peru. In my free time you can find me in the back corner of a coffee shop, drinking a latte and reading a fantasy novel. The UGHS Instagram is my domain this year! It’s our main contact point with the student body: follow us at @dalhistorysociety for info about the society and upcoming events!

Hello everyone! I’m Teymour, a fourth-year representative for Dal’s very own Undergraduate History Society. True to the title, I am in my fourth year, double-majoring in History and International Development Studies. My majors have led me to a particular interest in colonial history, politics and their intersections with the development field. My passions are travel, cooking, and I love having conversations about history, current events, or anything else! UGHS has lots of events to offer. I hope to see you around!

Third Year Representative: Katie Sievenpiper

During the school year I can usually be found locking-in at a coffee shop, but in my spare time I love reading, crocheting and coaching ski racing!
