Presented by notable architect John Patkau in honour of the late Essy Baniassad (d. 2023)āformer Dean and co-founder of TUNS Press with Brian Carterāthe lecture, titled Material Operations, Manoeuvres and Manipulations, will highlight reflections on architecture, research, and innovation. A companion publication will follow the lecture. Supported by the Essy Baniassad Endowment Fund, this initiative contributes to the ongoing work of DAP in advancing this series and architectural excellence, education, and appreciation.

Dr. Essy Baniassad (1936ā2023) was a globally influential architect, educator, and former Dean at the Technical University of Nova Scotia (TUNS). A champion of international collaboration, he expanded architectural education worldwide, founded TUNS Press (now Dalhousie Architectural Press), and led initiatives across Canada, Botswana, and Hong Kong, inspiring generations through his clarity, vision, and commitment to architectureās social impact.
John Patkau, co-founder of Patkau Architects with Patricia Patkau, is one of North Americaās foremost designers. His contributions to the practice of architecture have been recognized by numerous awards, including the RAIC Gold Medal for lifetime achievement, and by Membership in the Order of Canada for significant contributions to Canadian culture. He co-authored Dalhousie Architectural Pressās publication Patkau Architects: Selected Projects 1983ā1993, the first volume in the Documents in Canadian Architecture series.
