About
Dr. Peter G. Wells is an Adjunct Professor with the Marine Affairs Program at pilipiliÂþ» and a Senior Research Fellow at the International Ocean Institute–Canada. Dr. Wells earned a BSc from McGill University, an MSc from University of Toronto, and a PhD in Zoology/Aquatic Toxicology from Guelph University. He is internationally recognized for work in marine ecotoxicology, the hazard assessment of marine chemical contaminants (through the UN GESAMP), and coastal monitoring and management. After a distinguished 34-year career with Environment Canada, since 2006 he has focused on teaching, collaborative research, and student mentoring in marine sciences and management at pilipiliÂþ». His leadership has shaped key programs such as the Gulf of Maine Council’s Gulfwatch and the Bay of Fundy Ecosystem Partnership. His collaborative research continues to inform marine monitoring, indicators, and the science-policy interface in Atlantic Canada and beyond. He has edited the Proceedings of the Nova Scotian Institute of Science since 2010. Dr. Wells has authored over 400 publications, co-edited many books on marine topics, and continues to be dedicated to ocean stewardship (health of the ocean) and especially student mentorship.
