Sustainable Ocean Management and Development Conference (SO-MaD)

Students of the Ā at pilipiliĀž», and WWFĀ Canada, invite you to attend the SO-MaD student conference. A specificĀ focus of the conference will be on the role universities,Ā environmental NGOs and the Government of Canada should have inĀ supporting the delivery of political commitments underpinning theĀ RIO+20 vision for healthy oceans and related economies, in addition toĀ addressing new and emerging challenges. The conference will take placeĀ over two days:
Friday, March 30, 5:30pmā9:00pm ā Scotiabank Auditorium, Marion McCain Arts andĀ Social Science Building, 6135 University Ave, Halifax
Starting with a poster session and reception, followed by theĀ announcements of the 2012-2013 scholarship recipients made possible byĀ the Sobey Fund for Oceans. Ms. Maria Teresa Mesquita Pessoa (MinisterĀ Plenipotentiary of Brazil to the United Nations), will provide theĀ opening keynote address followed by a media panel of Ziya TongĀ (Daily Planet), Todd Battis (CTV National News) and Rob North (CBCĀ Radio).

The conference continues with aĀ series of student presentations addressing ocean management throughĀ social-economics, science and governance themes. Participants will develop a student statement relevant to the RIO+20 conference goals and objectives, to be disseminated in Brazil inĀ June 2012.
The Conference is free, but registration is required.
